Steven Silverman Moves Up the GPI Ranks

The GPI’s Player of the Year list is one of the most prestigious ranking systems out there for poker players, professional or otherwise. Indeed, making it into the top 10 of the PoY list has developed into a sort of a Holly Grail even for
poker players as stacked as PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu.
The current top 10 of the GPI PoY list is filled with top-class pros, including the above said Negreanu, who is 5th now, having dropped one place. In fact, everyone from the old top 5 dropped a position this week on account of Steven Silverman’s rise to the top. For 19 straight weeks, the player who had ruled the top of the GPI Player of the Year pops was Paul Volpe. Volpe has been missing from the tournament headlines lately though and that offered Silverman an opening which he took, shooting straight into the top spot with 786.1 GPI points to his name.
Volpe didn’t drop too far behind though: he’s currently second with 767.7 points. He’s followed by Mike Watson and David Peters. Daniel Negreanu is 5th as said above and Scott Seiver is 6th.
Igor Kurganov didn’t move up or down, successfully maintaining his 7th place. He is followed by two other non-movers: Chris Klodnicki and Ole Schemion in 8th and 9th places.
Marvin Rettenmaier moved up a spot to wrap up the top 10.
The GPI 300 top 10 is still ruled by
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier. Marvin Rettenmaier is second on that list, followed by Joseph Cheong and Mike Watson. Daniel Negreanu is present on this list as well: in 6th place. Here, he actually managed to move up a spot.
Philipp Gruissem, Ole Schemion, Igor Kurganov, Steve O’Dwyer and Bertrand Grospellier are also in the top 10, with the Frenchman wrapping up the list.
