SuperStar Showdown – Blom bounces back against Palmer

Viktor Blom took on Scott Palmer in the second round of their SuperStar Showdown bout on Sunday. The first round had gone to Palmer, who scored a $5,425 profit to barely inch ahead of his opponent in the final stages of the challenge. That loss pushed Blom’s overall Showdown record to 4-3, and a loss this past Sunday would’ve meant a 4-4, 50% record for him. Things didn’t turn out that way though. The Swede pulled his act together and finished the session with a massive $66,607 profit, to take his record to 5-3 and to walk away with a $61,182 profit from the Scott Palmer series. It seems like every time Blom splits a Showdown match-up, he ends up winning tons more than he loses, which is not bad at all for his bankroll.
The latest session was pretty much decided early on. Blom built up a $10k+ lead right out of the gates and he never relinquished it. The hand which gave Blom the lead was a classic perfect hand: he flopped a full house (Ks full of As no less) and Palmer made an A-high straight on the turn. They both got all their chips into the middle and Blom took down the pot to deal his opponent a blow the latter would find it impossible to recover from.
Palmer did fight back, but he couldn’t really make any headway: every time he seemed to catch up a little, he got punched in the face and sent back to the floor again. Later on, another perfect hand developed, which once again landed a monster pot in Blom’s pockets: the Swede hit a full house on the turn against Palmer’s middle set. The way things were going, the match was quickly degenerating into a one-sided trouncing. There were about 500 more hands to be played and Blom had a $100k lead at that point. Palmer clawed back though and he managed to exercise some damage-control, eventually only losing by the above said margin.
