Taylor Paur's Big $1.2 million Payday at the WPT's Bay 101 Shooting Star

Taylor Paur wasn't exactly a wild-card at the final table of the Bay 101 Shooting Star. With more than $1.5 million to his name in tournament winnings already and with the second biggest stack in his possession going into the final stretch of the tournament, he was in fact the definition of a favorite. Sure enough, he came through, disposing of competitors like Isaac Baron, Jake Bazeley, Faraz Jaka and Sorel Mizzi, to claim the top prize of the tournament, a massive $1,214,200. The one he defeated heads-up was Baron, whose own share of the prize-pool was $704.2k.
Despite the size of his stack (or maybe because of it), Paur kicked off the final day of the event aggressively. He put the pedal to the metal and sure enough, he was the one responsible for the first elimination of the final table: that of Ravee Mathi, who was sent packing in 6th place, with a $168.2k "consolation" prize.

The next elimination was that of Faraz Jaka, who was bounced in 5th place by Sorel Mizzi. Jaka's share of the prize-pool was $216.3k. Mizzi may have scored the last elimination, but he was the one to hit the rail next. Paur - who by that point had secured a solid hold on the chip lead - was the one who sent him packing. Mizzi's share of the loot was $310k.
Jacob Bazeley's elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament. Bazeley picked up $461.4k for his efforts. The heads-up part of the event lasted only 9 hands. The last hand saw Paur's 9h,10h defeat Baron's A,9o.
A total of 708 players had registered for the tournament.
