The Poker Tournament Directors Association is the official body responsible for working out the rules and regulations based on which most of the major live events and many of the smaller ones work, and they have just modified some of the rules that govern live tournament poker. While the changes have little/no impact on
online poker tournaments, those playing in live events are best off knowing about them.
For starters, calling the clock on a slow player is now a responsibility for players rather than an option. In a word: one now has to call the clock when warranted.
The tapping of the table has now been officially admitted as the sign of checking, so those who tend to just tap away absent-mindedly should pay special attention to their gestures from here on out.
Players who see something wrong with the way hands are read at showdown now have to speak up. This is no longer an option either.

Players will be required to protect their hand upon showdown, until the dealer reads them out, by placing their finger or a card-protector on it, in a way that does not obstruct view.
Betting can happen in two ways: by verbal declaration or by pushing chips out towards the middle of the table. In case both methods are used, the one which happens first will define the bet.
In order to be considered a live participant in the hand, a player has to be at his/her seat when the last card is dealt on the initial deal.
Furthermore: fouled hands which can be identified remain live, regardless of whether there were any cards exposed in the process or not.
