The Mother of all Online Heaters: Ben Jones’ 2014 Run

Sometimes, all that’s needed to get a poker professional into the right gear is a bit of a change of scenery, and Ben Jones will definitely attest to that, following a truly crazy start of the year for him. For Christmas, the Leeds resident made his way back to his family’s house in Cheshire and the move turned out to be an inspired business decision for him. Having been ripped away from the big city, its flashing lights and vibrant nightlife, Jones found himself focusing on his online poker tournaments, and apparently, he was able to focus better on them than ever before.
Instead of being out drinking with friends, he greeted the New Year at the online poker tables, playing in – and eventually winning – Full Tilt Poker’s Tyrannosaurus Rex event. The top prize in that one was $7,125, but he didn’t stop there. Sensing that he was about to catch fire, he won the same event the following day, for another $7k+ haul. The next stop for Jones – who is known by the online moniker “jenbizzle” – was PokerStars’ $33 Rebuy 6-max, which added some $1.28k to his 2014 tally (he came in second in that tournament).

The litany of his deep finishes continued with PokerStars $109 NL Holdem Turbo, in which he finished 3rd for $3k+. He made a couple of other deep runs at Full Tilt Poker, after which he won the $51 NL Holdem Hyper Turbo, for a $4k+ haul. He then scored two more victories at Full Tilt, the second one of which saw him take down the $250k Guaranteed, for a $56.4k profit. His latest win came in PokerStars’ Sunday Supersonic, which saw him take home another extremely respect-worthy prize of $54.2k.
Thus far, Jones’ lifetime tournament profits total some $1.1 million, not bad at all for someone playing such small buy-in events.
