The Online Poker Weekend – Blom Doing Well at WCOOP

This Sunday saw massive crowds log into their
PokerStars accounts to play in one of the richest and most notorious
online poker events of the year: the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker. The $5.2k tournament saw 2,113 players belly up to its virtual tables, creating a prize-pool of $10.66 million. The eventual winner’s share of that would be $1.87 million.
After the first day of action, 296 players remained standing.
Dan Smith was among the notables who finished the first day with a healthy stack. He actually finished 3rd in chips, right behind chip leader HeroFoldCall and second place man Pkr_b777, with 536.2k chips to his name. Jason Mercier, Jake Cody and Andrew Lichtenberger were among the survivors as well, together with Liv Boeree and Mike McDonald.
Not all WCOOP events running on Sunday were as big as the Main Event though, and thus some of them actually managed to play down to their winners. The $10.3k 8-Game High Roller for instance, saw a large field of notables take to the virtual green felt. Daniel Negreanu played, together with Phil Galfond and Bertrand Grospellier, not to mention Alex Luneau, who ended up winning the tournament and claiming the $234.3k top prize.
The $2.1k HORSE event was another WCOOP tournament which played down to a winner. Viktor Blom and Eugene Katchalov were among the notables playing in this event, and they both made the final table. Unfortunately, that was all she wrote for both of them as they became the first two victims of the home dash. The winner of the event was vachette17, who took down $71.7k for his efforts.
JC Alvarado also managed to take home a handsome reward on Sunday, together with David Baker, the winner of the Sunday 500.
