The WCOOP may have generated plenty of action and buzz, but with it finally out of the way,
PokerStars were able to revert to their regular weekend schedule which meant that the Sunday Million was back on. Having been on hiatus for around a month, the Sunday Million rebounded in style, smashing its guarantee the way it pretty much always does.
A massive starting field of 6,834 players bellied up to the virtual tables of the biggest weekend major, creating a prize-pool of $1.36 million, leaving the initial $1 million guarantee in the dust.
The winner of the event was Robert Cheung, who ended up with a prize of $127.3k on account of a 5-way deal the top players agreed on. The deal led to some pretty distorted results prizes-wise: Cheung, was not only not the biggest winner, he wasn’t even second. Runner-up “honhanv” pocketed $137.6k, while the biggest winner turned out to be 3rd place man “yurasov1990” whose $139.1k was the biggest haul of the
poker tournament and the weekend. The 4th 6-figure winner was 5th place finisher ”Desmoplakin”, who took home $101.5k. A player known by the online moniker “datysho”, who finished 4th almost made the cut too: his share of the prize-pool was $97.9k.
Besides the winner of the event, the deepest finishing notable was Joao Barbosa, whose 33rd place was worth $2.8k.
The Sunday Warm-up saw 3,227 players belly up to its virtual tables, generating a prize-pool of $645.5k. The winner of this event was a player known as “MORTIIIII”, who picked up $93.7k after a heads-up deal. The eventual runner-up, “davydenko123”, finished with $83k.
There weren’t any 6-figure winners in this one. The deepest finishing “name” player was Russell Crane, who ended up in 7th place for a $14.5k reward.
