The online poker weekend was a rather busy one this time around and that’s because the WCOOP kicked off on Sunday, generating massive starting fields, prize-pools and several title-winners already.
The first event of the series, the $215 NL Holdem 6-Handed event, which was supposed to offer a $1 million guarantee, drew a starting field of 7,322 players, who combined buy-ins to create a prize-pool which simply put the initial guarantee to shame: $1,464,400.
There were quite a few poker pros in the starting field, among them Jim Collopy and Kenny Smaron. Smaron finished 13th for an $8.7k reward, while Collopy ended up in 14th place picking up the same amount of money.
The
poker tournament saw a 4-way deal transpire at its top, with the eventual winner – a player known as ‘ezepoker90’ – picking up the top prize of $184,388.
The runner-up was EspBju, who took home $132.2k for his efforts.
Event #2 was a $215 NL Holdem one, boasting a guaranteed prize-pool of $1.5 million. As a matter of fact, event #2 was the Sunday Million, built into the WCOOP. The event drew a starting field of 10.6k players, who ended up generating a prize-pool of $2.1 million, once again putting the initial guarantee to shame.
This event saw a deal at the top too: a 6-way one. The winner, ASIAAN, took home $231.2k, which was the biggest single haul of the weekend. All 6 players who took part in the deal scored well into 6-figures.
Mark Darner’s win came in event #5, the $215 NL Holdem Turbo one. There was a 4-way deal in this event as well, which probably cost the eventual winner quite a bit of money, but he still ended up with a $144k haul. Andrey Zaichenko finished 14th in the event, taking home $7k. Other notable finishers were Mickey Petersen (who finished 29th) and Mike McDonald, who was eliminated in 31st place.
