The Online Poker Weekend – Sean Getzwiller Wins Sunday Million

This week, the Sunday Million turned out to be a special tournament indeed. With around 7k players bellying up to its tables every weekend, it is not often that “name” competitors make it to the top, despite the fact that there are always quite a number of
PokerStars’ own players taking part in it. This Sunday however, no fewer than two such “name” players made it all the way to the top: Sean Getzwiller and Jake Bazeley. Both of them more tempted by the glory than by possibly securing a few extra thousands of dollars, the two notables made certain there would be no deals at the top this time. The eventual winner was Getzwiller, who ended up with the $232.4k top prize and the bragging rights of course. The runner-up’s share of the prize-pool was $170.4k. Only one more player managed to finish with a 6-figure prize: third-place finisher “veryking” walked away with $116.2k.
A total of 7,748 players coughed up the $215 buy-in for the Sunday Million, creating a prize-pool of $1.54 million.
The highest finishing notable (other than Getzwiller and Bazeley of course) was Paul Van Nunes, who picked up $1.4k for his 57th place.
The Sunday Warm-Up drew a starting field of 3,624 players, generating a prize-pool of $724.8k. Unlike the Sunday Million, this poker tournament saw a 3-way deal at its top, which prevented everyone from reaching 6-figures. The eventual winner, “RigasDinamo”, didn’t even end up with the biggest prize: his share of the prize-pool was $89k. Runner-up “pads1161” walked away with the top score of $94k. The third player involved in the deal, “mora7777” was rewarded with $75.3k.
Joseph Elpayaa was the deepest-finishing “name” player: he ended up in 6th place, taking down a $23.5k reward.
