With the weekend behind us yet again, it’s time to take a look back at some of the winners of the Sunday majors. Again, the ‘name’ crowd was out in large numbers, looking to grab some of that sweet guaranteed money and indeed, some of them did manage to get their hands on the goods.
Brandon Rubie, Joseph Cheong and Dan Smith were all among the deep finishers. The biggest single prize of the weekend was once again awarded by the Sunday Million, which saw its winner, a player known as ‘vladobu6i’, pick up $153.3k for his efforts.
The $215 event drew a starting field of 6,270 players, who created a prize-pool of $1,254,000. Jake Elwood made a deep run in the
poker tournament, busting out in 50th place for a $2.1k reward. Tom Grigg did relatively well too: he finished in 56th place, for $1.99k. PokerStars’ own Kevin Thurman made the final table, and eventually, he busted out in 7th place. The remaining 6 players struck a deal, after driving a truly hard bargain for about an hour. Eventually, third place finisher jjthomas1212 became the only player with the exception of the winner who walked away with a 6-figure haul: he pocketed $113.4k.
The Sunday Warm-up saw a much smaller field of 3,029 players take to the tables. The prize-pool in this one was $605.8k. There weren’t any 6-figure winners in this event: the player who came closest was the winner, UncaJ5, who took home $95,1k. There weren’t any deals made in the event. The interesting thing was that third place in the Warm-Up went to none other than vladobu6i, the winner of the Sunday Million, who took down another $50.2k, so it’s safe to say that this guy – whoever he is – had one rather eventful
online poker weekend indeed. None of the other Sunday majors yielded any 6-figure winners. The winner of the Sunday 500 was Mads Amot, who picked up $68.6k for his efforts.
