The Poker Grapevine – 2013 Aussie Millions Kick Off

The 2013 edition of the Aussie Millions got going the other day, with the first event drawing crowds to Melbourne’s Crown Casino. There will be a total of 26 events, the first one of which – the one already underway – is a $1.1
NL Holdem event, featuring an interesting format. Players are basically allowed to re-buy into the event any time during the first 3 day 1 flights if they happen to bust out.
Given that the second day 1 flight only plays out today and the third one kicks off tomorrow, we do not yet know the final number of participants and the prize-pool. We do have a base for comparison though: last year, the opening
poker tournament of the Aussie Millions drew a starting field of 946 players, generating a prize-pool of nearly $1 million. The winner of the event was Brendon Rubie, who picked up $205.9k.
The next two events on the schedule are the $1.1k PLO event and the NL Holdem shootout. There’s also a $1k Charity event, hosted by the Shane Warne Foundation.
In other news:
PartyPoker’s Big Game will be back in the spotlight come March. The WPT’s Vienna stop will host the event at the Montesino Casino in the Austrian capital. The March edition of the event will be its 7th. The previous 6 editions never failed in drawing some of the poker world’s crème to the cash game tables. Tony G and Mike Sexton will obviously be there again. In the past, players like Eugene Katchalov, Scott Seiver, Jonathan Duhamel and Mike Matusow took part in the hostilities too, not to mention Phil Laak.
The blinds of the Big Game are set to a default of €25/€50, but at the end of the day, it is the players who establish the true stakes.
