The Poker Grapevine – ACEP Launches Online Poker Room

As legal online poker seems more and more like a certainty in Nevada, one after the other, all the big players jump on board to secure their presence on the stage which may well prove to be the most profitable gambling and poker operators have ever legally set foot on. The latest bigwig to join the
online poker frenzy is the company behind the world-famous Stratosphere Casino: ACEP, which has recently launched its own free-to-play online poker site powered by Ongame.
The site basically offers free poker around-the-clock, which pretty much makes it legal for everyone in America to join and play there. The intentions behind the move are obvious however: once online poker is legalized and legally launched in Nevada, ACEP plans to introduce real money action, which means that while everyone will still be able to access the free tables, only residents of the state of Nevada will be able to play for real money.
The operation will apparently not be a dime a dozen one either: the owner plans to run a series of exclusive promotions which will offer tickets to various Stratosphere Casino shows as well as to the rides on top of the tower.
ACEP has received its interactive gaming operator approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission last September. The software platform will be provided by Bally Technologies, which has not long ago acquired the Ongame platform.
Bally Technologies are also approved and licensed by the NGC.
In other news: Washington has been one of the states which adopted a very strict interpretation of the 2006 UIGEA, positioning online poker square outside the law and slapping penalties on to it, which include up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines. A legal initiative has recently been launched aimed at reducing the above said penalties for recreational online poker players.
