The poker grapevine – Ashton Griffin’s monster side-bet

High stakes prop bets between well-bankrolled poker pros are extremely common, everyone knows that. Still, when actual details of such a prop bet emerge, people are keen to sink their fangs into it, as it’s not every day we get to gain a behind the scene look at such things.
Those who find delight in snacking on such tasty morsels didn’t have to go out of their ways to acquire some gossip: poker pro Haseeb Quereshi published a post on his blog about his $1 million bet with Ashton Griffin. Those familiar with the poker world know that Ashton is a rather fit person, someone who can log a 13-mile run any day. His bet with Quereshi was basically about running 70 miles during a 24-hour span though, a feat which most of his friends considered was way beyond the poker pro’s capabilities. He would have to log the miles on a treadmill, maintaining a steady running speed, however he was free to take a break any time he wanted to. The bottom line would have to equate 70 miles at the end of the day. To top it all off, Ashton offered Quereshi 3-1 odds, and what started out as a $70k-$210k bet, was quickly bumped to a $285k-$855k one.

Exactly how the whole thing ended isn’t yet clear, as Quereshi only posted the first part of the story, which concluded with the arrival of Ashton’s parents, who drove up from Florida hearing that their son was about to put his health and possibly his life onto the line for the sake of trying to prove the world something. They were obviously not overjoyed to learn that Quareshi and a friend of his were the guys on the other side of the bet.
If you’re itching to learn how this one turns out keep an eye on Quereshi’s blog or on this poker news section as we’ll try to get an update on the story as soon as possible.
