The Poker Grapevine – Aussie Millions in Full Swing

As the poker world is busy focusing on all sorts of online capers and various live events taking place on the northern hemisphere, Down Under, the Aussie Millions roar on, handing out titles, rings and massive prizes left and right.
Two players were crowned winners this week: Michael Guttman and Yosuke Sekiya.
Guttman’s win came in event #3, the $1.1k NL Holdem Shootout. Guttman is by no means a newcomer to the Aussie Millions’ tables: this is his 4th title in fact, however he hasn’t tasted victory for a while, since his last Aussie Millions win came in 2010, when he teamed with Mel Judah to grab the $1.1k Teams title.
A total of 210 players showed up for the event and Guttman took home $44.1k for his efforts. Guttman had to win 3 SNGs in a row to get to the top (it was a shootout event after all). Second place went to Shane Foglietta, who picked up $29.4k for his efforts. This score took Guttman’s career tournament winnings close to the $1 million mark.

The other event which played down to a winner this week was event #4, the $1.1k NL Holdem/PLO mixed event. 206 players paid up the buy-in in this one. The winner of the poker tournament was Japan’s Yosuke Sekiya who thus set a new record by becoming the first Japanese player to win an Aussie Millions event.
Sekiya took home $41.2k for his efforts, coupled with a champion’s ring. Sam Higgs was the player who started the final dash of the event with the largest stack. He did in fact take full advantage of his large stack, and he ended up in second place, falling to Sekiya heads-up. Third place went to Joe Cristallo.
