The Poker Grapevine – Big One for One Drop Almost Capped

Being the largest ever WSOP event, and featuring a buy-in of $1 million, the Big One for One Drop has always carried the potential for failure. After all, the event is treading new ground in several respects, and whenever that’s the case, the possibility of failure is always part of the package. WSOP fans can apparently toss their fears right out the window regarding this event though. 42 seats of the available 48 have already been bought up, and it appears the event may even reach its cap before registration is over.
The WSOP has recently announced no fewer than 12 more entries to the event. Needless to say that all those who have thus far made the $50k deposits are ‘name’ pros. The latest players to join the roster were Eugene Katchalov, Jason Mercier, Andrew Robl, Noah Schwartz, Vivek Rajkumar, Sam Trickett, Nick Schulman and David Peat.
At least two other players have announced their intention to play in the event: Ben Lamb, the unstoppable force of the 2011 Series, and Jean Robert Bellande, the player whose high stakes exploits and swings are known in pretty much every corner of the globe. These two have thus far not made the $50k down payment though.

In other news: while things are indeed coming together nicely for the WSOP organizers these days, the same cannot be said about PokerStars, who have suffered a bit of a setback in Macau earlier last week: the online poker site has announced that its PokerStars Macau Cup, scheduled for August 11, was cancelled. The company’s director of live poker operations for the Asia-Pacific region, Danny McDonagh, said that the event had been cancelled due to circumstances beyond PokerStars’ control. McDonagh also confirmed however that the June 9-18 Macau Poker Cup would go ahead as scheduled. The Main Event of the MPC will be a HKD $11k Red Dragon event which is bound to generate more than enough interest.
