The Poker Grapevine – Bitcoin Adopted by Vegas Casinos

The story of Bitcoin has been one of great financial success and that of a major step taken right into the future, through the introduction of the world’s first widely accepted virtual currency. Good news continue to befall Bitcoin these days, as two Las Vegas casinos have just announced that they would accept the virtual currency from their patrons thus becoming the first live gambling proprieties to accept Bitcoin.
The two casinos are The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. The two operators are obviously hoping that their Bitcoin move would result in additional business. According to the co-owner of both the above said casinos, Derek Stevens, being located in an area of downtown with a high tech-affinity, it was only natural for his operations to adapt to the novelties thus keeping a step ahead of the more tradition-rooted competition.
Bitcoin payments accepted by the two casinos will be processed through BitPay at five locations through the two establishments, including the two front desks.
The gift-shop at the D will accept Bitcoin as well as Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Stakehouse and the American Coney Island.
The move carries some hidden significance due to the fact that built back in 1906, the Golden Gate is in fact the oldest casino in Las Vegas.

In other news: on Sunday, two players got extremely lucky at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Anthony Nicodemo made quad kings in a poker game, and got his chips into the middle against David Gallagher’s K-high straight flush. He lost of course, but the two players hit the $183.6k bad beat jackpot.
The largest share of the jackpot, some $91.8k, ended up in the loser’s possession. The winner was rewarded with $45.9k, while the other players at the table were all rewarded with $9.1k.
PokerStars is the best destination for major online poker tournaments and live event qualifiers. Their weekend majors are indeed second to none.
