Justin Bonomo may be one of the higher profiler poker professionals out there, but when it comes to the second durrrr challenge between Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates, he’s just as frustrated as your garden-variety
online poker player/fan. In a post he started at one of the popular
online poker forums, Bonomo said that he had talked to Dwan as well as to Cates and that he was optimistic that the two would get together to advance their durrrr challenge by thousands of hands come September. He also said that he felt this time around the two would actually get around to doing it too. To be perfectly frank though, Bonomo had in fact felt the same way a couple of times in the past, when eventually nothing transpired action-wise.
Dwan has been absent from the online poker tables lately and he possibly hasn’t made a single headline this year. For some reason, the New Jersey Wonderkid has kept a low profile and that can’t be good for the future of their current challenge match-up.
In other news: everyone even the slightest bit versed in the subtleties of the poker and online poker industry knew from the get-go that the ISPT (International Stadiums Poker Tour) initiative was doomed to fail, which it eventually arguably did, logging a €589k overlay in its maiden event.
The officials behind the ISPT seem to have admitted defeat too with the posting of a new event at their site. The new tournament will apparently take place in Tangiers, Morocco, and it will feature a buy-in of €900, offering the eventual winner a €90k guarantee.
Named the “Tangiers Millionaire Maker” the event is puzzling on several levels, but one thing is certain about it: it represents a major step back from the initial ambitions of the organization.
