The Poker Grapevine – Brock Parker Wins Borgata Fall Poker Open

The Borgata Fall Poker Open Main Event is in the books and the winner is Brock Parker, a professional player who already has two
WSOP bracelets under his belt. Although Parker made it look easy, the tournament was definitely not a walk in the park for him. He survived a starting field of 644 players, and he battled fellow poker professional Scott Baumstein heads-up.
The field was rather pro-laden anyway, with players like Allen Kessler, Christian Harder and Matt Matros making deep runs. Kessler finished in 20th place, besting fellow pro Brian Lemke who was bounced in 27th. Matros made it all the way to 15th and Harder nearly made the final table, dropping out in 11th place.
Despite all the pre-final table pro casualties, quite of few of the “name” players made it to the final table. Matt Stout was one of them: he fell in 7th place, picking up a $56.6k reward for his efforts. Michael Esposito survived Stout, but only by a hair. He finished 6th, picking up $70.6k. Jeffrey Papola was there too: he ran ashore in 5th place. He took home $85.3k.
Scott Baumstein, the runner-up, pocketed a handsome $209.4k prize.
In other news: some
online poker rooms may still be thriving, but the intricate legal environment generated by the 2006 UIGEA and the Black Friday indictments have left several gasping for breath. William Hill, one of the iPoker rooms, has reportedly seen its online poker revenue drop by an astonishing 27%. The group’s general revenues have actually increased, but the online poker side declined in a spectacular manner, in a clear indication that one of the world’s largest sports betting businesses is finding it more and more difficult to adapt to the rapidly changing legal landscape.
