The Poker Grapevine – Brunson vs Sheikhan April Fools?

April Fools’ Day is a major catalyst for all sorts of hoaxes each year and this time around it wasn’t any different. Some of this year’s poker hoaxes however, overshot the mark by quite a bit, so much so that not even today, a good two days after the alleged deeds does the poker community know whether or not they were indeed hoaxes. Doyle Brunson’s son, Todd Brunson was at the center of one such extremely well-served up hoax. Everything began with a tweet of his, in which he said that he managed to have Sheepy (presumably Shawn Sheikhan) kicked out of the Aria poker room to take his seat. That tweet was followed by more and gradually the entire story unfolded:
Sheepy allegedly returned after being banned by the casino staff for the day and he confronted Brunson at one point slapping him on the shoulder. According to Brunson, he then spun around and knocked Sheepy off his feet with a punch to his face. The casino staff then stepped in and even the police was called in, before Brunson was admitted to have been the victim in the confrontation and asked whether or not he wanted to press charges. While he apparently didn’t press any charges against the assailant, the Aria allegedly did, and thus Sheepy was led away to jail handcuffed.
The fact that the bad blood between Sheikhan and Brunson was pretty much common knowledge lent credibility to the story.
The Aria never confirmed however that any incident of this nature occurred and Todd’s father, Doyle said he certainly hoped it was nothing more than an April Fools joke.
Todd Brunson himself never confirmed whether or not the story was indeed a hoax and no one has heard from Sheikhan regarding the alleged incident either, although if he were indeed sitting in jail, his lack of reaction would definitely be understandable.
