The Poker Grapevine – Casino Owes Ivey £7.3 Million

Those who know a thing or two about Phil Ivey know that besides being one of the most successful poker players in the world, he’s also an avid gambler, one who – unlike most of his counterparts – is apparently quite successful at it too. Ivey is currently involved in a bit of a dispute with the oldest casino in London, Crockfords, over £7.3 million which the casino apparently owes him but which was thus far withheld, pending an internal investigation at the gambling establishment. The problems basically started when Ivey decided to play Punto Banco Baccarat at the casino and he wired £1 million there. He then had a massively successful session, logging profits of more than £6 million. He then requested the whole sum to be transferred back to him and that’s where the casino decided to deny the request and to start an investigation into the matter. Exactly what Ivey is accused of is unclear, but some sources believe the problems may be connected to the Asian woman that accompanied him at the casino, and who had had her membership suspended at a different gambling establishment before.
Whatever the case is, Ivey isn’t about to get his money any time soon, and depending on what the investigation digs up, he may even end up with a seriously tarnished reputation at the end of it all.

In other news: Bodog have been shifting their focus to the Asian markets and it seems like the move is a multi-pronged one for the company: even as they cover pristine ground in Asia, they are withdrawing from more “traditional” markets like Europe. The site has pulled out of 20 countries in August, and now it seems like bodog.eu is no longer functional either. European players who access that URL are redirected to Bodog.co.uk instead. It now seems like European players who want to keep playing poker will have to open an account at Bodog’s new Bodog88.com.
