Poker players are usually a charitable bunch, despite the prop betting and binge-gambling tendencies some of them exhibit. Whenever it’s for a good cause though, the more respectable representatives of the poker world never shy away from landing a hand. On December 9, the 4th annual All in for CP charity event kicks off. Its goal: to raise money for the One Step Closer and the Sam Simon foundations, both of which exist with the sole purpose to make life easier for those suffering from cerebral palsy.
The tournament features a buy-in of $540, and players will be allowed to re-buy for $200 during the first hour and a half of the event. A whole bunch of notorious poker players and celebrities are scheduled to attend. Barry Greenstein, Patrik Antonius, Phil Laak and Jamie Gold will all be there, together with Mike Sexton. Montel Williams, Sam Simon and Shannon Elizabeth will represent the celebs.
In addition to the charity aspect of the poker tournament, actual prizes shall be given away too: those who make the final table will take home $25k.
Jacob Zalewski is the one who came up with the idea of this tournament. A cerebral palsy sufferer himself, he is the chairman of the One Step Closer Foundation, which has thus far managed to raise $170k for the cause.
In other news: high stakes
on line poker maniac and prolific Twitter poster Jean Robert Bellande has launched a website of his own. Through his frequent tweets, Bellande has managed to offer an insight into the life of one of Las Vegas’ wildest high stakes poker players. He has more than 30,000 twitter followers, who will definitely be interested in whatever he has to say on his site. Bellande is known in the poker world for the frequent and wild swings to which he subjects his bankroll. His site will apparently feature a bankroll management tool too, although one may want to think twice before taking bankroll management advice from JRB.
