The Poker Grapevine – Daniel Cates Buying a Player into the WSOP

Daniel Cates, known online as ‘Jungleman’ is one of the most successful high stakes online poker players and apparently he’s a generous person too. Not forgetting where he started off, Cates is buying a lucky player into the WSOP Main Event, paying the full buy-in as well as the airfare and covering the cost of a hotel room at the Rio while the Big Dance lasts. The winner of the Daniel Cates WSOP package shall also enjoy the benefits of a poker lesson offered by Cates himself. The Deal is indeed a more than advantageous one, as those who intend to try to get their hands on the said package don’t actually have to play for it. All they need to do is to perform a good deed and catch it on video. Cates will decide which good deed deserves the handsome reward. The videos of the good deeds must be uploaded to Youtube and participants have to tweet their videos to Cates. Cates gave away a Main Event seat last year too: he raffled it out among those to whom he gave raffle-tickets randomly in the streets of Las Vegas.

In other news: While little is certain thus far about the Big One for One Drop WSOP event, which is slated to be the biggest WSOP event ever, featuring a buy-in of $1 million, Carlos Nahas of Montreal, Quebec, already knows he will be in the mix indeed. He won the Grand Tournoi de Poker Loto Quebec, which awarded a seat in the Big One, after a 6-hour long heads-up battle against JC Ferreira. There were quite a few name pros in the starting field, like Scott Montgomery and Mike McDonald, but eventually it came down to two virtual unknowns to battle it out for the prize. The interesting thing about Nahas was that he only played because a friend of his won a seat in the event on slots.
