The Poker Grapevine – Daniel Negreanu’s WSOP Woes

It’s not a secret for anyone that Daniel Negreanu hasn’t exactly stolen what one would consider his fair share of WSOP headlines thus far in the Series. He had a decent start by finishing 5th in a
PL Holdem event and he made it deep in a $1.5k Omaha 8 or Better event, but since then, Lady Luck seems to have developed a grudge on him. He hasn’t been able to show up in any of the events in which he took part and even he admitted that he had been running a bit unlucky there.
Despite the fact that he has indeed been busy trying to get something together, Negreanu didn’t miss the opportunity to upload one of his usual rants to YouTube the other day. In it, he discusses his
WSOP woes and how losing pretty much every day can stress out even the best players out there.
He also touched on the fact that some of the high buy-in $10k events have had their buy-ins reduced to $5k. Despite the fact that some considered the move a mistake on the part of the organizers, Negreanu made it clear that under the current poker-economy, the move was indeed an inspired and necessary one. With loads of bankrolls still tied up at Full Tilt Poker, the number of registrants in the $10k events would probably be below 100 every time, and by the end of the Series lots of players would be busted and unable to play.
Negreanu has also confirmed the fact that he would indeed play in the $1 million buy-in One Drop.
Another player who just joined the ranks of participants in the richest poker tournament ever is Haralabos Voulgaris, Voulgaris has apparently negotiated his way into the Big One, by picking up a ticket from Carlos Nahas, who had won it with Keith Hamilton’s slots ticket. To make a long story short, Voulgaris paid an undisclosed sum of money to both players in exchange for the seat.
Voulgaris said that due to the high number of recreational players who will play in the event, it may just turn out to be the highest EV tournament ever.
