The Poker Grapevine – Durrrr Challenge to Restart in August

Daniel Cates, one of the most respected
online poker professionals has been cruising around lately, looking to stir up high profile drama and to get some sort of nosebleed stakes heads-up action going. First, he slammed Ben Grundy around on one of the most popular poker forums, belittling his skills and his profit claims and calling him out for failing to take him on in a heads-up match. According to the latest bits of information from Cates, the Durrrr Challenge will be rebooted this month, so he will get his fair share of high stakes action after all, from Tom Dwan.
Those who have been around the online poker tables for a while know all about the Durrrr Challenge #2, a high stakes heads-up showdown between Daniel Cates and Tom Dwan, which kicked off back in 2010.
Set to last for 50k hands, the two players only managed to wade through 20k at
Full Tilt Poker’s online tables before Black Friday struck. By that time, Dwan had built up a $1.2 million lead. Cates will now be looking to claw his way back into contention.
Cates made his Durrrr Challenge-related statement at a
poker forum, saying that he had agreed with Dwan to log a minimum of 4k hands per month, and then 8k hands every two months. Cates also said that according to their new agreement, if they failed to nibble through the scheduled 4k hands in August, certain restrictions would be instituted. As to the exact nature of those restrictions, he said there would probably be scheduled bouts and penalties for not showing up.
The two had attempted to resurrect the challenge Series once before, but this time, they do indeed appear serious about it. We haven’t really heard a confirmation from Dwan though.
