The Poker Grapevine – Edwin Ting Sentenced, Boeree Shooting for FHM

There’s always something going on in the world of poker/online poker that may not be directly related to the green felt action, yet it’s still just as part of the big picture as various big live and online tournaments and their winners. Often, such apparently less important events offer a much better pulse-reading on the general state of the industry than anything else out there, and this week was no different. We learned for instance that Edwin Ting, the organizer of what many have called the “highest-profile illegal game in New York”, has been sentenced to 5 months in prison, and in addition to that, he will have to forfeit some $2 million, money which he accrued through the above said illegal games.
Ting’s games saw an A-list crowd belly up to the tables, including celebrities, Wall Street sharks, various organized crime figures and other well-to-do competitors. Ting took a rake, and from that, he is said to have earned several millions of dollars.
Ting had had another illegal gambling-related run-in with the law back in 2005.

In other news: Liv Boeree is generally considered the “hottest poker player” to hit the high stakes felt and that distinction has earned her a couple of opportunities in other verticals. This isn’t the first time Boeree will take part in a shoot for a men’s magazine, but this time around she’s shooting for FHM, so this is indeed big.

In still other news: Jennifer Tilly has certainly made a bigger name for herself on the big screen than at the green felt, although her poker antics and accomplishments aren’t half bad either.
This week, she’s returned to the sitcom “Three Dinners” as Shorty’s (Chaz Palminteri) wife and the two of them move to Costa Rica, the focal point of the online poker industry – although they do not do anything poker related there…
888poker has been the best destination for online poker promotions for quite a while and now it’s returned to the US market too.
