With the
2012 WSOP looming ever more menacingly on the horizon, ESPN have unveiled their WSOP coverage schedule, dropping one more variable into place before the Big Dance commences. This year, no fewer than 3 WSOP events will be covered, which means that in addition to the Main Event – which is a regular fixture – the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop and the WSOP National Championship shall also hit TV screens.
The final table of the Main Event, which takes place on October 30 and the last day of the Big One for One Drop (July 3) shall be aired ‘almost’ live. There will be a 15-minute delay in the broadcast, allowing viewers to watch the action unfold as the hole cards are almost still live.
In other news: the Isle of Man has long been known as one of the online gambling/poker hotspots and it now looks like the jurisdiction is working hard to expand its reach into the live poker market as well. The first step in this respect may well have been taken the other day, when the Legislative Council passed the second reading of a bill which would be instrumental in the expansion of live poker on the island. The Isle of Man has been the home of PokerStars’ global headquarters since 2005. The island is also host to a number of online gaming companies and it hosts the Isle of Man TT, one of motorsport’s premier events. Thus far, live gambling/poker has enjoyed a very limited presence within the jurisdiction: a small casino is the only entity allowed to host live poker tournaments.
According to one of the supporters of the above said bill, the Isle of Man already has regulation in place regarding live gambling and it would thus be a mistake for the jurisdiction not to take advantage of the existing legal framework as well as its stellar reputation in this respect.
