The Poker Grapevine – Frankenberger on Top of the World

Andy Frankenberger has proved once and for all that his style of poker – as unconventional as it’s considered by many – is in fact quite effective, not only through his latest WSOP win but also through a lifetime worth of poker achievements. Frankenberger’s latest win came in the $10k PL Holdem event where he defeated none other than Phil Ivey heads-up. The event had attracted 179 players, and the size of the buy-in made certain that they were all top-notch professionals. The top prize that Frankenberger pocketed was $445.8k, but despite all his achievements, he still failed to get due credit from his peers and from poker specialists alike.
There are in fact threads in some of the most popular online poker forums out there, entirely dedicated to belittling various plays that Frankenberger has made over the years, but then again, we all know how such forums tend to draw the haters and the know-it-alls in droves, and at the end of the day, there’s no getting around the fact that Frankenberger’s results more than talk for themselves. Even pro Thomas Marchese had a few choice words for Frankenberger while doing commentary during the final table, but it’s safe to say that after his win, most of his mockers have been silenced at least for the time being.

In other news: poker pro Olivier Busquet is apparently thinking about calling it quits. He has accumulated millions of dollars in profits over his career, but he’s apparently growing tired of living in and out of hotels all the time. Busquet said that since Black Friday, he hasn’t really been able to spend any time at home either, without going on a forced vacation, so his career grew into a massive liability in regards to many of the strong relationships he intended to maintain.
Despite the freedom that being a poker pro offers him, Busquet is now looking to play for a few more years only before he moves on to something different.
