The Poker Grapevine – FullTiltPoker.eu Launched

A few days ago, Full Tilt Poker made an announcement regarding the launching of a new .eu site to which all the online poker room’s European players would eventually be transferred. According to the announcement, the new site would be launched within a few weeks, but alas it is already live. Those who logged into their Full Tilt Poker accounts on Monday were greeted with a message which told them that all cash games and poker tournaments would be paused as players from several European countries (namely Luxembourg, Greece and Slovenia) were transferred to the new FullTiltPoker.eu site. The move apparently went smoothly and the action has already kicked off on the new domain. Players residing in the above said three countries didn't really have a lot of say in the matter: the move was compulsory for them.
According to Full Tilt Poker officials, players from Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Poland and Germany would soon be transferred to FullTiltPoker.eu as well.

As far as the FullTiltPoker.eu software and interface are concerned, nothing distinguishes them from the FullTiltPoker.com package. What exactly was the purpose of the move then? Based in the Isle of Man, FullTiltPoker.com isn't operating out of the European Economic Area. FullTiltPoker.eu on the other hand is based in Malta, a country which is a member of the EEA. What that means for players is that at least in some of the above mentioned countries, they will not be forced to pay any sort of taxes on their Full Tilt Poker winnings, given that according to law, gambling winnings originating from within the EEA are tax-free.
As said above, the move was compulsory for Luxembourg, Greece and Slovenia and it will be compulsory for players residing in the other above mentioned countries as well. Player balances will be kept in US dollars.
