The Poker Grapevine – Greg Merson’s WSOP APAC Freeroll

Greg Merson will obviously play in the WSOP APAC, an opportunity too sweet to miss for the reigning WSOP Main Event champion. Those who follow him on Twitter were presented with a rather unique opportunity the other day, when Merson announced a freeroll for 1% of his WSOP APAC Main Event action. Those who want to take part in the “promotion” have to send in a picture of themselves in their favorite jersey. Apparently, Merson, who won last year’s WSOP Main Event wearing a Baltimore Orioles jersey, is looking for new jersey ideas for his WSOP APAC drive.
After several people re-tweeted and favorited his post, Merson decided to raise the stakes: he put out another tweet in which he announced he would reward 3 winners. Second and third would get 1% of his $5k six-max action, another event in which he apparently intends to take part.
Although the odds on Merson taking home the top prize in either of those events are indeed rather slim, one shouldn’t forget that he’s offered up 1% of all his action, which means it’s enough if he finishes in the money.
Everything considered, the lesson in this is that it sometimes pays to follow a poker pro on Twitter.

In other news: with the APAC offering no fewer than 5 bracelet events, it has pretty much guaranteed the presence of some players, for whom getting another bracelet is always a top priority and an unquenchable thirst. Phil Hellmuth, the owner of most WSOP bracelets will be there to add a few more/another one to the tally. Joe Hachem is a local player so he will definitely be there. Antonio Esfandiari – the winner of the largest WSOP event ever - has also made his intentions clear through Twitter.
