The Poker Grapevine – Hellmuth on Poker Bill

Phil Hellmuth is one sly old fox for sure, so when he says something, one had better pay attention. The good news is that what he’s just said may have huge repercussions for the online poker industry. In an interview on Short Stacked Radio, the Poker Brat said he would consider signing with a brand new online poker operation within a couple of weeks. He also said he would probably sign with an operation the online poker world hadn’t yet heard about and that he would do it in preparation for the imminent legalization of online poker.
Hellmuth said that the legalization of the game before February 1 wouldn’t surprise him. He concluded that a never before seen poker boom would follow this legalization and that he intended to take full advantage of it. If this came from a nobody, one would just shrug it off, after all, how many times have we heard such stories in the past? But this time, the optimism comes from the person who bailed from UB a few weeks before the Black Friday indictments, essentially predicting the doom and gloom that followed. If anybody, this guy knows something we don’t. He was the harbinger of doom and now he says good times are ahead.

Hellmuth makes no secret of the fact that he’s well connected and therefore what he says carries more weight than usual. In the same interview he said that he had had discussions with some pretty big people and pretty big companies that were all gearing up of legal online poker.

In other news: in January 2012, the Aussie Millions will host a super high roller event, entry to which will cost $250k. A bunch of pros have already expressed interest in the event. Erik Seidel was the winner of the last such event, collecting a prize of $2.5 million after beating 19 other players to the top.
