The Poker Grapevine - How Hard is it to Win a Poker Tournament?

According to Boston Rob, it is “really” hard indeed. Rob Mariano may be known for his success in Survivor, but he has been known to play poker occasionally too, and success at the green felt often decided to side with him indeed. Last week, the reality star played in the WSOP-C’s Biloxi Main Event, where he managed to make it all the way into 3rd place, picking up a pretty impressive $47.8k prize for his efforts.
Needless to say, in the wake of his green felt success, the media was eager to talk to him and they were also pretty keen on drawing a parallel between Survivor and poker. Mariano was happy to oblige. He said that Survivor required a different sort of concentration on his part than poker tournaments. In the reality show, he had to keep an eye on the whole picture all the time, while at the poker table, he can focus on his direct opponents only.
He saw the winning of a poker tournament to be quite similar to the winning of Survivor though: he said that in poker as well as in the reality show, one could do everything right and still end up losing, while being rewarded for making a mistake wasn’t unheard of in either. Boston Rob said that he felt it was extremely hard to win a poker tournament and that his approach towards tournaments was the same as to the reality show: focus on doing everything right and hope that Lady Luck doesn’t decide to slam the door in his face.

In other news: poker professionals Eric Baldwin and Allen Kessler have put together a photo documentary of their cross-country poker adventure, or rather, Baldwin has, since Kessler looks more than disinterested in every one of the photos Baldwin has thus far tweeted.
