The International Stadiums Poker Tour (henceforth referred to as ISPT) has been quietly gathering momentum under the radar for a while now. Even though some
poker tournament experts have expressed skepticism regarding the feasibility of a project as large as the ISPT, that doesn’t seem to faze the organizers. They have been on the hunt for high profile poker professionals to represent the interests of the ISPT and to generate player interest, and thus far they have indeed been quite successful in this regard. First, they’ve managed to get none other than one of the most successful WSOP players of all time on board in Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi, and now they appear to have gotten Sam Trickett under contract too.
Trickett has indeed confirmed the news himself, in a tweet in which he also added that the ISPT’s Wembley Stadium event, held on May 31, 2013, would be the biggest live poker tournament ever hosted anywhere on earth.
Choosing Sam Trickett was by no means a random move on the part of the ISPT. As far as tournament winnings go, Trickett is the UK’s all-time money leader, having amassed more than $16.4 million in profits of various live
poker tournaments. Since the opening event of the ISPT will be held in England, the significance of Trickett’s signing is obvious.
Getting 30,000 players to kick off the May 31 event is by no means an easy feat and the organizers are fully aware of the impact a player like Trickett can have in getting the rank-and-file competitors to register.
The ISPT action will start off in the stands, where players will use an electronic device to battle their way into the top 3k. Once the top 3k is reached, the action moves down to the pitch to the actual tables. The guarantee offered by the first ISPT event is expected to top €20 million.
The event will enjoy massive TV coverage.
