The Poker Grapevine – ISPT under Fire

The International Stadiums Poker Tour has been a rather controversial concept from its very beginnings. Industry specialists and poker pros have expressed skepticism regarding the scope and the scale of the planned event series from the very beginning. About a week ago, the tour has made an announcement regarding the naming of Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi as its ambassador, after which certain other details regarding the planned first event of the ISPT have been made public as well.

The first event is scheduled to take place next May at the Wembley Stadium, where – according to organizers – thousands of players will battle it out for a guaranteed prize-pool of €20 million. The truly overbearing scale of the undertaking has made many an expert doubt that the ISPT would ever take off, and now the people behind the series have given them more reason to stay skeptical: the word ‘guarantee’ has been removed from the site of the Series, which pretty much means that the organizers aren’t particularly certain about the deal themselves.
A couple of days ago, a press release by the ISPT also cast more doubt over the nature of the prize-pool. This time around, the prize-pool was referred to as ‘approximately €20 million’.
According to Stephen McClean, the UK representative of the ISPT, the guarantee is already in escrow, however, protocol prevents the company from revealing more about it for the time being.

In other news: Jamie Gold has recently decided to reveal the secret weapon that contributed greatly to his 2006 WSOP Main Event win, which landed him a prize that’s still the biggest single one ever won by a player in a WSOP Main Event.
According to Gold, the special diet that he had followed through the weeks leading up to the Big Dance contributed immensely to his eventual success. Exactly what the diet is, Gold doesn’t reveal. After all, one can’t give away his main green felt edge, can he?
