The Poker Grapevine – Ivey Playing Poker in Instagram Picture?

Ever since he opened an Instagram account, Phil Ivey, one of the most reclusive high-profile poker professionals, has been giving the world an increasing number of peeks into his private life. Needless to say, poker fans love that, as they eat up and over-analyze every bit of information he makes available.
The latest such bit of information came in the shape of a picture, which shows Ivey doing something on a laptop, on a luxurious outdoor veranda, next to a pool in Cabo. No one is sure of what he’s actually doing, but the general assumption is of course that he’s playing poker.
If he is indeed doing that, it means the luxury that surrounds him has no positive effect on his game: the player considered by many the best poker player in the world has been struggling lately at
Full Tilt Poker’s online tables. On Wednesday for instance, he dropped $290k, a blow which would’ve been a crippling one for the average Joe. Ivey took it all in stride though and he managed to rebound the following day, eventually finishing with a profit of $34k.
In other news: poker players are well aware that in order to make a deep run in a major tournament, one needs Lady Luck’s solid backing at several points through the hostilities. Apparently, the same holds true for November Niners, as Mark Newhouse makes it clear in an article he wrote for the San Jose Mercury News. In the article, he discusses a hand which occurred deep in the tournament and which saw him flop a two pair, against JC Tran’s flopped set. Little did he know at that point that he was in a perfect hand situation, a scare-card on the turn though curbed his appetite for action. In the end, that card ended up saving his tournament life.
