Whatever Phil Ivey’s plans are with his IveyPoker.com, they must be big plans, because the number of poker pros hired to represent the brand is slowly but surely nearing those of well-established
online poker sites. The operation hasn’t even been started up yet and there are already 21 professionals on-board. The three latest players to have signed with Ivey’s site are Christian Harder, Jackie Glazier and Griffin Benger.
Jackie Glazier’ s name may not be a particularly well-known one for US players and poker fans, but her signing was an important geo-strategic move on Ivey’s part, given that Down Under she is indeed one of the big guns. Glazier has amassed close to $1 million in tournament earnings, mostly thanks to a 2nd place finish in the
2012 WSOP, a move which alone netted her more than $458k.
Benger is an online poker buff: he has won more than 100 online
poker tournaments, amassing more than $4 million in lifetime online tournament earnings. Benger was once ranked the #1 online tournament player in the world.
Christian Harder is quite possible the best-known of the three. He’s had success online as well as at the actual green felt. He too earned about $4 million in tournaments. His biggest cash was a $571.9k one, which he scored at the WPT’s $25k Championship Event in 2009.
Ivey’s roster already includes players like Patrick Antonius, Greg Merson and James Dempsey.
The stated goal of Ivey’s operation is to teach players how to play poker the right way.
In other news: the NBC’s Heads-Up Poker Poker Championship is drawing near and there are more and more potential participants expressing interest in the Series. One of the participants will apparently be Greg Raymer, former WSOP Main Event Champion who has been dominating the HPT lately.
