The Poker Grapevine – Ivey’s Hair-Raising Prop Bet Proposal

Some poker players are known to be hopeless gamblers too, in the sense that there isn’t anything they wouldn’t wager massive amounts of money on. The other day, Phil Ivey – who is known to be one of these ultimate gamblers – further underscored that image, tweeting a picture of himself from some years ago, and launching a proposal regarding a challenge that would see him attempt to recreate the look from the picture in one year’s time.
One has got to give it to him: Ivey used to be a handsome youngster indeed back in the days when he rocked a giant ‘fro (or was it rather that the ‘fro rocked him?), and there’s no doubt that a considerable amount of effort would have to go into the recreation of that otherworldly helmet of hair indeed. Also, Ivey will probably find it a cinch to land a few people willing to bet against him in his follicularly-charged prop adventure.

In other news: PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu and Vanessa Rousso took on a selection of NHL alumni in the PokerStars NHL Alumni Charity Shootout, knocking the stuffing out of them – and that’s putting it mildly. Indeed, understanding that the point of the event was to raise money for charity, the way Negreanu and Rousso made the skill vs luck point once again at the tables was quite amazing to say the least. The two pros dominated the 3-episode set thoroughly, ruling the green felt in the first 2, but truly taking the NHL alumni to the cleaners in the third one. The players who got fleeced were Matt Barnaby, Brad May, Denis Savard, Pat LaFontaine and Darcy Tucker.
All the above said victims should consider themselves lucky that the massacre was only aired in Canada, on SportsNet, but given that the videos have already made it to YouTube, they may not be saved a lot of embarrassment after all…
