Monday saw the PaddyPower.com Irish Poker Open play down to a winner. It took the starting field of 502 players 3 days to reach the end. When it was all said and done, Belgium’s Kevin Vandersmissen took home the top prize and the title. There were several ‘name’ players in the starting field, and a few of them made it all the way to the final table. Andy Black was among those who reached the final stretch, together with Samuel Chartier. Unfortunately for them, none of these players managed to make it far at the final table: they both busted out relatively early.
The start of the day chip leader was Ian Simpson, an
online poker qualifier. Although he failed to make it to the top, Simpson certainly didn’t disappoint. He finished 4th, taking home €107.5k, which represented quite a profit margin, considering the amount of money he had spent on his buy-in.
David Dean finished 3rd, for a €158k haul. The heads-up bout was between Vandersmissen and Thomas Beer. The final hand of the event saw Vandersmissen’s 9.7o best Beer’s A,Ko. The winner took home €420k while the runner-up had to settle for a prize of €225k.
In other news: the PartyPoker Premier League V’s preliminary heats wrapped up over the weekend. Three players advanced to the final from both preliminary groups. From group A, it was Mathew Frankland, Sam Trickett and Tony G who advanced. Group B yielded three more potential winners in Daniel Cates, Patrik Antonius and Scott Seiver.
The eventual winner of the event will pick up a $500k prize and a $25k ticket to the World Poker Tour Championship.
Mathew Frankland was the one who won Group A with 40 points. Daniel Cates took group B with 39 points.
The PartyPoker Premier League V’s final takes place on Tuesday.
