The Poker Grapevine – Lodden Hates Deals, PokerStars Juice Sunday Million

As part of PokerStars’ $27 million December Festival – about which we ran a piece a while ago – this Sunday, the flagship guarantee of the site, the Sunday Million will feature quite a bit of added juice. In fact, the usual $1.5 million guarantee will be raised to an impressive $5 million, which means that the eventual winner – provided no deals are made at the top – will walk away with $500k. Indeed, that prize is rather impressive from just about every angle, but it’s probably going to be even bigger than that, considering all the player interest generated by the above said promotion and
PokerStars’ history of covering its guarantees.
When it comes to incredible value though, not even the Sunday Million can match the Sunday Storm, which features an $11 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee.
Talking about final table deals – which are pretty regular during the Sunday Million’s home stretch nowadays – PokerStars pro Johnny Lodden doesn’t particularly like them. Lodden is confident in his abilities at the green felt, whether it’s live or online action we’re talking about, but he has several other reasons to avoid deals too: he likes to go for all the marbles and he loves the excitement of gambling. On top of it all, he feels he gives up an advantage when he strikes a deal at the final table.
The PokerStars pro feels that he can identify with a high degree of accuracy, those players who are scared at the final table and try to fold their way into a better paying position. By giving up on attacking these players and exploiting their weakness, he says his final table strategy suffers.
At the EPT’s Grand Final, Lodden refused a deal, and ended up losing out to Andrew Pantling and Steve O’Dwyer.
