The Poker Grapevine – Matthew Lapossie Wins WPT Fallsview Poker Classic

The last day of the Main Event of the 2014 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic saw 10 players return to the tables to play down to a winner, which is exactly what they did. At the end of it all, Matthew Lapossie was the one who walked away with the giant trophy and the $342.2k top prize. Lapossie bested Dylan Wilkerson heads-up, as there were no deals made at the top. The share of the runner-up was $228.8k.
Jason James finished 3rd, picking up $147k, while Spiro Mikrogianakis managed to break into 6-figures too, taking home $108.9k for his 4th place.

The first victim to bite the dust at the beginning of the day was Xiaohu Chen, who was followed to the rail by John Boulougouris and Peter Labib. Labib’s elimination in 8th place set up the official final table of the poker tournament. The first victim of the final table was Dave Graham, whose 7th place earned him a $54.4k reward. Howie Leung was the next one to get closer acquainted with the sidelines. Sent packing by eventual runner-up Dylan Wilkerson, Leung picked up $65.3k for his 6th place. Wilkerson then proceeded to send Josue Sauvageau packing too, setting up the 4-handed stage of the event.

In other news: having sniped players away from New Jersey’s Atlantic City casinos for years, Pennsylvania suddenly found itself at a disadvantage when the Garden State moved to legalize and regulate online poker and online gambling. State lawmakers are currently scrambling to find a solution to the conundrum and as it’s always the case in times of distress, they’re throwing their support behind various more or less radical sides of the issue at hand. While some legislators are looking to find ways to follow in New Jersey’s footsteps, Rep. Mario Scavello is trying to have online poker players thrown in jail.
