The poker grapevine – NBC Heads-up seat awarded

The National Heads-up Poker Championship’s starting field is now pretty much complete. Justin Young managed to grab the seat awarded by Caesar’s in a special live qualifying event, by defeating Eric Baldwin heads-up. The $230 buy-in event attracted a starting field of 217. The poker tournament was structured like a regular MTT until there were but 16 players left. From that point on, the heads-up tournament rules were switched on. There was a real money prize-pool as well. The winner, Justin Young, got a $25k seat in the NBC Heads-up Championship. The win at Eric Baldwin’s expense came with a nice dose of vindication for Young, who had been defeated heads-up by Baldwin in the NAPT Bounty Shootout in LA.

In other news: the perpetrator who brazenly robbed the Bellagio Resort and Casino last December, making off with about $1.5 million in casino chips was apprehended by police a couple of days ago. 29-year old Anthony Michael Carleo, Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge George Assad’s son, left his motorcycle outside the casino entrance with the engine running. He then walked up to a craps table and got the dealer to hand him the chips at gun-point.
Police caught the suspect red-handed as he was trying to sell some of the stolen casino chips to an undercover officer.
The casino had discontinued use of the $25k chips in early January, giving players until April 22 to cash them in. That may have placed additional pressure on the assailant to come forth to try to convert his haul before it turned into worthless plastic in front of his eyes.

The WPT’s Venice stop kicked off at the Casino di Venezia. The Main Event is already in full swing. “Name” pros who coughed up the €3,000+€30 buy-in for the poker tournament were Max Pescatori, Alessio Isaia and Fabrice Soulier. The Venice stop will include a €10k High Rollers’ event too.
