The Poker Grapevine – Negreanu on Nguyen’s HoF Induction

Scotty Nguyen has been kept out of the poker Hall of Fame for a while now and to many people – especially to those who know the guy better – that has been an absurd situation.
One of the players who know Scotty Nguyen from up-close is PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, easily one of the most charismatic and in the same time most down-to-earth player on the live circuit today. Negreanu – unlike Scotty’s critics – is firmly behind Nguyen’s HoF induction. In a recent interview granted to one of the major online poker news portals, Negreanu said he found it quite ridiculous that Nguyen has not yet been inducted and he said Scotty shouldn’t be judged based on a one-time drunk meltdown which is apparently quite uncharacteristic of him.
Negreanu said that through his career, Scotty Nguyen has been the most fan-friendly poker player out there, somebody who knows what poker is/should be about and who adds tremendous entertainment value to the game. As such, he is obviously great ambassador material too. Obviously, most people new to poker know Nguyen for his 2008 Players’ Championship meltdown, but Negreanu says ESPN didn’t show the whole sequence of events leading up to Scotty drunken rampage. DeMichele had apparently needled him beforehand and he simply lost it.
To make a long story short: if Negreanu feels Nguyen should be inducted into the HoF, maybe he’s not just whistling Dixie.

In other news: Sheldon Adelson is against online gambling. This isn’t exactly news, but in a recent interview, the octogenarian billionaire lashed out against online gambling anew, voicing his worries that the availability and the speed of the various online games would turn people into gambling addicts. Considering how much money he’s made off brick and mortar gambling, Adelson’s reasons to oppose online gaming are questionable to say the least, although from a purely technical perspective, he may have a point.
