The Poker Grapevine – Negreanu Plays Open-Face Chinese Poker with Ivey

Everyone knows that PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu is friends with Phil Ivey off the green felt too, and indeed, the two apparently like to party together as well. What do they do when the rain busts their pool party? Apparently, they play Open-face Chinese poker with some ridiculously cheap-looking paper cards. Whether or not the two had more fun playing poker than actually partying out in/around the pool with a large number of women, is something we may never find out, what is certain however is that Ivey has one hell of a Las Vegas residence with a pool large enough for half the high-profile
poker community to fit into.
In other news: as part of its
WSOP coverage, ESPN offered the public a peek into yet another poker legend’s home the other day. Doyle Brunson played host to the ESPN crew in his Montana summer home, which may indeed be a “long way from Longworth, TX” but which is quite spectacular from just about every respect. The clip offers a glimpse of the Brunson family taking it easy on the gorgeous property, taking in the quiet and the solitude in so stark a contrast with the Las Vegas lifestyle.
Tex Dolly narrates the segment, letting the audience know how his Montana getaway was inspired by the late Chip Reese, one of his life-long poker buddies.
In still other news: Marvin Rettenmaier has been precipitously climbing the GPI rankings for the last few weeks and he has now finally gotten within striking distance of Jason Mercier, the
PokerStars pro, who has been sitting in the top spot for the last 15 weeks. Rettenmaier is a high roller and his latest jump was due to his winning of a WPT Merit Cyprus high roller.
