The Poker Grapevine – New PokerStars Pro

The fact that a German has won the WSOP Main Event this year hasn’t gone unnoticed at PokerStars: the team responsible for bringing online pros aboard has selected a German player as the latest PokerStars sponsored pro. The German online poker market may indeed explode in the wake of Pius Heinz’s victory, and being the largest online poker site left standing after the Black Friday storm, PokerStars have got a responsibility to take care of that market-segment.
The 22 year old Bjorn Schneider is the latest player to join the site. He will be joining an already impressive German contingent of Team PokerStars pros, of which Sandra Naujoks and Sebastian Ruthenberg are also members.
Schneider is a heads-up SNG specialist, but if you think you’ll be able to get hold of him at the low buy-in tables, you can think again: he plays $5k heads-up SNGs exclusively.
Schneider is a busy fellow too: he’s earned about 2.7 million VIP player points this year, which makes him a prime candidate to break fellow PokerStars pro Kevin Thurman’s all-time VIP point record, which sits at the 3.05 million mark.
Things hadn’t always been as rosy for Schneider though: he began to
play Holdem two years ago at the $5 SNG tables and gradually worked his way up. At the beginning of this year, he was already playing $100 SNGs. Schneider is quite fearless: he won’t back down from any challenge, not even if the name of that challenge or rather challenger is Viktor Blom. The two have played a series of high stakes SNGs.
In other news: the 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event is drawing near, and as players scramble to secure a seat in the big one, Crown Poker, the Aussie millions host decided to open a series of channels through which players can earn their seats. There will several online qualifiers (some of them direct access ones, others sub satellites) at various online poker sites like Titan Poker,
PartyPoker, 888Poker, Winner Poker and Poker770.
