The Poker Grapevine – North Carolina Approves Poker Bill

North Carolina has just joined the list of states which have made huge strides towards the legalization and regulation of the game of poker. The legal measure which gained the approval of the Senate on Wednesday is about live poker games and not
online poker, still the move does indeed seem to be a huge step in the right direction when it comes to lending legitimacy to the game. NC Governor Beverly Perdue signed the bill into law only a few hours after the Senate approved the measure. The legal move essentially enables Harrah’s Cherokee Casino to offer live dealer games such as blackjack and poker.
The bill does not open the way for live dealer games all over the state: the above said casino is the sole beneficiary of its provisions. The Cherokee Casino has been seeking legal approval in this matter since 1997. The newly opened possibilities will allegedly create around 400 new jobs at the casino and some of the profits generated from the newly approved activities will go to the North Carolina Education dept. The new games are to be up and running by July 4.
In other news: the starting field of the Big One for One Drop, the largest buy-in event ever hosted by the WSOP, gets larger and larger every day. The latest high profile pro who has announced that he will indeed take part in the event is Ben Lamb. Lamb hasn’t really put in a lot of time at the WSOP tournament tables thus far this year, electing instead to play WSOP Live Action games. Lamb was one of the top WSOP performers last year. He played in 7 events, making the final table in 5 of them. He also took home a bracelet and made it all the way to 3rd place in the Big Dance. On Thursday, 12 more players have announced their intentions to play in the $1m buy-in event.
