The Poker Grapevine – Online Poker in French Parliament

Parliament debates are usually sessions filled with concentrated boredom for most lawmakers world over, and the French are obviously not an exception. French parliament members have found the perfect way to combat boredom during sessions though: they have been photographed using their iPads and other types of mobile devices to perform a variety of entertaining activities online, among which – you’ve guessed –
online poker. Obviously, French parliament members find the game extremely entertaining although some of them have been caught playing chess and shopping for wine online.
Whether it’s a surprise or not that parliament members act like a bunch of undisciplined school-children is up for debate. What is certain though is that the revelation has sparked numerous calls to restrict wireless internet access within the national assembly or to at least institute a filter that would only allow access to certain sites.
In other news: Phil Ivey’s online poker teaching operation, IveyPoker.com is definitely taking off. After a handful of name pros joined his team of online instructors, he has scored his first English instructor in James Dempsey. Dempsey has started out as an online player and he has lately focused his attention on the live games, where he became quite successful too. His experience gives him expertise in both poker genres, something that will certainly come in handy from an instructional perspective.
Dempsey is also a
WSOP bracelet owner: he won his first one in the $1.5k PL Holdem event of the 2010 Series, when he survived a starting field of 650 to claim the top spot. His biggest live tournament cash came in the WPT’s Five Diamond event at the Bellagio in 2012. His live tournament earnings surpass the $2 million mark.
It is still unclear exactly what format IveyPoker will feature.
