The Poker Grapevine – Partouche Poker Tour Honors Advertised Guarantee

Day 5 of the Partouche Poker Tour’s Main Event was the scene of yet another surprise twist: after he had announced that the guarantee would stay at €4.3 million and that he would discontinue the PPT, Patrick Partouche made the surprise announcement that he would restore the originally advertised €5 million guarantee. The owner of the Partouche Groupe has apparently paid a bit of thought to the decision and he arrived to the conclusion that he was much better off restoring the guarantee, even if it meant that he would end up losing a lot of money on the deal.
Meanwhile, the green felt hostilities continued as 47 players returned to the tables on Day 5. They were all in the money even as the action kicked off, so the focus would be obvious for everyone involved: the final table.
14 players managed to survive the day’s battles, securing their seats for Day 6. Dan O’Brien was among the survivors: he finished the day second in chips. Dan Smith managed to advance as well.
A total of 33 players bit the dust on Day 5 of the
poker tournament, among them Antoine Saout and David Williams.
Patrick Partouche’s decision was by no means a 180 degree flip on his Day 3 announcement. As a matter of fact, he maintained that the €5 million had never been etched in stone and that those convinced that that would be the size of the guarantee had drawn the wrong conclusions. He still added the €735,420 to the prize-pool though and announced that the resignation of Jean-Jacques Ichai, the marketing director of the PPT would not be accepted. He also maintained that the PPT would not return next year.
With everything said and done, the prize-pool has been re-allotted and thus the winner will now take home a massive €1,172,850. All those currently in contention are guaranteed a minimum payout of €49,999. All those making the final table will thus be 6-figure earners.
