The Poker Grapevine – Patrik Antonius Back at Full Tilt

High stakes cash game players have been filing back to Full Tilt Poker for a few months now. Thus far however, one notable absence was that of Patrik Antonius, who used to be in the middle of the nosebleed stakes commotion all the time at the old Full Tilt. Viktor Blom was among the first to go back to the site, together with Gus Hansen. The two of them were hired as members of “the Professionals” though, so their moves were indeed fully understandable. Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey followed them back, and Ben Sulsky showed up as well. It was now Patrik Antonius’ turn to get back to his old roaming grounds, and that’s exactly what he did a few days ago. On Friday, he was spotted by railbirds waiting for some heads-up action, sporting a pimped-up, special avatar.
His first Full Tilt Poker session didn’t turn out particularly well though: he ended up dropping around $300k. Of course, the loss of some small change cannot and will not affect Antonius’ gait: on Thursday, he recovered all that money, and he made a bit of profit on the side, by finishing $485k above the red line.
Not only is Antonius one of the biggest
online poker cash game winners of all time, he is in fact the player who won the largest ever online poker pot. It happened back in 2009, during Full Tilt Poker’s glory days, when $1 million+ pots were quite regular at the site. The $1.35 million monster-pot came about in a PLO hand, which the Finn had played against Viktor Blom.
The exact significance of this record is difficult to pinpoint, because we’re quite sure that had it not been for the Black Friday setback, it would’ve fallen, considering the way things were going back then.
