The Poker Grapevine - Phil Hellmuth to Play in Big One

Phil Hellmuth really wanted to play in the Big One for One Drop, after all, he who considers himself the best poker player of all time can’t possibly put up with not playing in the greatest poker tournament of all time. Capped at 48 players, the last two seats of the Big One were awarded through a couple of satellites. One of these was the $25k Super Satellite which Gus Hansen managed to win on Day 35 of the 2012 WSOP. The other satellite was the MGM Resorts International VIP satellite. Hellmuth was trying to sell pieces of his Big One action in order to raise the money for the buy-in, but he was still well short of his target when registration closed. His only hope was the above said VIP satellite. He didn’t manage to win it, what he did manage though was to convince the winner to sell him his seat for an undisclosed sum of money.
The Poker Brat confirmed that he would be playing indeed through twitter, which is great, because – even if he’s not the greatest poker player of all time (and he probably isn’t) – the event only has to gain from the presence of a character like Hellmuth.

In other news: PokerStars have announced the next edition of their MicroMillions Series, to deflect a little bit of public attention from the WSOP to the online poker scene. The first edition of the PokerStars MicroMillions was a massive success. This time, the Series will award guarantees totaling $5 million, in 100 events, some of which feature buy-ins as low as 11 cents.
The Series kicks off on July 12 and it will last till 22. The great thing about the MicroMillions is that it gives players of all skill levels and financial means a shot at some truly massive prize-pools. It’s safe to say the MicroMillions tournaments are where high stakes pros of tomorrow are made.
