The Poker Grapevine – Poker Room Named After Jamie Gold

Most online poker players will agree that Jamie Gold is quite probably not one of the best poker players ever to walk the face of the earth, despite his still standing record WSOP Main Event win in 2006.
Las Vegas gambling operators have a different opinion of him though: after Phil Ivey and Bobby Baldwin, Jamie Gold has become the third poker player to have a live poker room named after him. The Tropicana Las Vegas has just finish up renovating its poker room which will henceforth be known as The Jamie Gold Poker Room. Jamie Gold himself will be heavily involved with the project: he will be the spokesman for the Tropicana and he will serve as an ambassador for the brand. He will also appear in the poker room on a daily basis till mid-January 2006, and after that he’ll still show up every month.
Gold said that he was excited about the deal and that it embodied everything he had ever dreamt of in regards to such a live poker deal.

In other news: Sam Holden has won Late Night Poker, besting a starting field of 32 players and taking home the $150k top prize. The 888Poker pro has had quite a year indeed: he has finished 9th in the WSOP’s Main Event to take home a $782k top prize in addition to his LNP win. Unlike its US-based counterparts, the UK-based poker show did not go under in the wake of Black Friday. Holden defeated fellow Brit Luke Schwartz heads-up for the title.
The final hand of the event saw Schwartz’s A,J go up against Holden’s K,Q before the flop. The board was quite merciless with Schwartz, giving his opponent a straight. The 32-player field included quite a few big names. John Duthie and Dave Ulliott were there, together with Jake Cody, Simon Trumper, Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree.
