The Poker Grapevine - Poker Room Opens in Maryland

Online poker may have taken a massive hit in the US following Black Friday, but the interest for the game is apparently alive and well. Indubitable proof to that has been delivered on Wednesday, when a brand new poker room opened its doors in Hanover, Maryland and it was immediately assaulted by thousands of players eager to get inside and play.
The Maryland Live (the name of the room) was scheduled to open at noon, and before dawn, people were already lining up at the doors. Open 24 hours and featuring 25 tables, the poker room failed to alleviate the congestion at its doors even after its official opening. At 1 PM, there were still around a thousand players waiting for a chance to set foot in the promise-land.
It only took a few hours for a $10/$25 NL Holdem game to get going. Obviously, all of the tables were filled to capacity.

The Maryland Live is now not just one of the largest live poker rooms on the East Coast, it is one of the best-equipped ones too: there are apparently phone chargers built into the tables and masseuses are available around the clock to get the blood circulating in worn-out grinders.
The location of the room is a premium one as well: situated between Washington and Baltimore, it is likely to attract the cream of the crop of the East Coast poker community.

Maryland native Greg Merson is already eyeing the poker room as one of his future top live destinations. In a Washington Post interview, he said he felt the new poker room would turn into a truly elite destination for the high stakes crowd.
Merson’s home town of Laurel is only about 15 minutes away from the Maryland Live.
